Is it any wonder that Monkwell is the first choice supplier for leading international prestigious and demanding hotels, architectural properties and cruise ferry producers. <br> <br> <b>About Monkwell Fabrics</b> <br> <br> Monkwell originated in 1889, under the name of Semple & Co, a family firm dealing in canvasses, tarpaulins, jute goods and various sundries associated both with furniture and with general industrial uses such as shipping and transportation. The range expanded in the 1950s to include furnishing fabrics, which by 1976 had proved so popular that the industrial textile side ceased to exist. <br> <br> In the 1970s the demand for more space precipitated the move from London to Dorset, where an in-house design department was established in 1986. In 1987, having been purchased by Parker Knoll Ltd, the company became known as Monkwell, a name derived from its former location at Well Court, London, in premises situated above the well of a medieval monastery. <br> <br> Business flourished in the UK and Monkwell expanded into the export market in the late 1980s. In 1992 the merchandise offer was expanded through the purchase of the stock and name of The Design Archives, a Courtaulds' company. <br> <br> In the 21st Century, Monkwell has continued to produce innovative collections for curtains and upholstery; it has retained its strong position with furniture manufacturers and has also launched a collection of fabrics specifically designed for the contract market. <br> <br> In May 2001 the company was acquired by Crowson Fabrics Ltd and although certain functions have been consolidated at Uckfield, Design, Sales and Marketing functions retain strict autonomy within the Group in order to preserve Monkwell's valuable brand identity. <br> <br> In addition to the Monkwell brand, the company also develops and markets The Design Archives offering prints, weaves, wallpapers and laces drawn from authentic eighteenth and nineteenth century archives and re-interpreted for today's interiors. <br> <br> For all enquiries, please contact Monkwell Head Office on : <br> <br> Telephone: 01825 747901 | Facsimile: 01825 747866 <br> <br> <b>The Design Archives</b> <br> <br> Formed in 1981, The Design Archives develops and wholesales prints, weaves, wallpapers and laces to the decorator market throughout Europe and the World. <br> <br> Part of the Monkwell group, the company is committed to producing fine furnishing fabrics drawn from eighteenth and nineteenth century archive material and interpreted for today's discerning interiors. <br> <br> <b>Monkwells contracts department</b> <br> <br> Monkwell Launches Figaro Trevira <br> <br> Monkwell launches a second Trevira CS collection for the contract market. Following the success of Fragments Trevira, the Monkwell design studio has developed Figaro, its second collection designed specifically to meet the stringent demands of the UK and international contract markets. Trevira CS is ideally suited for use in hotel bedrooms and other public areas. It is inherently flame-retardant, its FR properties being irreversibly embedded in the molecular structure of the fabric. Moreover it is easy to clean, quick to dry and retains its shape well. In keeping with the ergonomic and ecological considerations of the 21st Century, Trevira CS fabrics need considerably less water and detergent to wash them and less expenditure of energy to dry them. <br> <br> Figaro comprises a dramatic large-scale damask, a stripe and two checks in a spectacular array of coordinating colours. In addition to the intrinsic benefits of the Trevira CS yarn, the fabric enjoys the look and appeal of a washable silk. Almavira: A theatrical 18th century style damask in an expansive array of 17 colours Basilio: A bold multi-colour stripe in five colourways Marcella: A medium scale two-colour check in ten colours Cherubino: A small, contemporary two-colour check and spot motif in six colours. <br> <br> Five dramatic combinations of fashionable colours give a 21st century twist to the designs: Blue & mocha: modish tones of warm brown are contrasted with ice and cobalt blue Peony: sumptuously combined fashion shades of vibrant fuschia, purple, orange and cherry Naturals: dove grey, café au lait, stone and caramel in a subtle blending of warm and cool neutrals Black & gold: luscious shades of tobacco, chestnut, cinnamon and old gold contrasted with charcoal Green: verdant hues of mint, sage and leaf combined with soft vanilla. <br> <br> Monkwell is one of the world's largest designers, producers and stockists of high quality decorative fabrics and wallcoverings with over seven thousand different products and a stock holding of £9 million available in over fifty countries.
